When I look back……..
My first ever job in England was when I was 15 years old, I entered into that strange world of work!! At school part of our curriculum was to endure 2 weeks of ‘real work’ experience. I had no real idea what I wanted to try…….. Our teachers gave us some options so I chose to work for an Estate Agent close by.
Estate Agents at that time were a different breed altogether, or so I thought…. quite intimidating, really. They were ‘very put together’ individuals, incredibly smart, talked posh and what an incredible job they have, I thought. So many different types of homes at their fingertips! What could be better than that! When I was working there (and I say that loosely!) I witnessed a very different view to buying and selling homes. Being on the inside now, looking out.
Iaided the busy Estate Agents by photo copying the details of homes. Back then, they would have actual photographs of the houses which I would have the place exactly in the right spot! (Top left hand corner on the details sheet). I then sorted the details, some properties had numerous sheets attached, staple and make sure accuracy was key. Then stamp and send out to prospective clients. I learnt so much in that fortnight.
From that moment on it made me appreciate the work of the Estate Agent even more. Of course many, years later I now feel blessed to have a great insight again into the world of Real Estate and Design. Real Estate resources have changed so much over the years. Having properties appear immediately on MLS. The communication aspect is almost seamless now. I shouldn’t compare countries but it is very apparent to me that the same objectives are very clear, getting your house sold for minimal days on the market for the most money possible. There are different incentives in England, referral schemes, different commissions etc.
I have worked with different Realtors. They all know about the market trend. It is very inspiring.
I love meeting people and learn so much when I chat to them. At the end of the day we are all striving for success. I can always learn more.
I was visiting some open houses last weekend and was truly inspired at the knowledge that Realtors really do know what they’re talking about. They really do earn their money. The amount of effort and energy that can be put into showing a home and the hours of sheer hard work behind the scenes amazes me. Getting it right first time! Bringing each property to life by accentuating their unique qualities.
A high percentage of prospective buyers do view on line. Homes have to capture every emotion on the net for buyers to want to view it. I love open houses because I get to meet the Realtor in person in their surroundings. And any questions that need answering can be given there and then. It is paramount when choosing the right Realtor. Everybody is different. Even from a professional stager’s point of view.
It is very important to build that foundation, trust between the stager and Realtor. If the ideas cannot be clearly communicated between the Stager and Realtor then the end result and disconnect will be very apparent. On occasions, I do come across Realtors that do not inspire me. It could be their body language, it could be that they just don’t want to be there. For the most part I have had great experiences and absolutely love what I do. It is a very rewarding job.
